Simple Potting bench with shelf mounted on fence |
|
A Saturday project, potting bench from mostly scraps |
I have been wanting to build a potting bench for a while. A fancy one with shelves and hinged portions over bins of soil and lots of artsy do-dads hanging around. I ended up just building it from found items and supplemented with a few 2x4's to finish the top—all my scraps for that were too short. The shelf underneath is made from extra cedar fence panels. I didn't hinge anything but that's okay—at least it is done. The tricky thing about building this potting bench is that is sits on a slight slope so I had to build it in place with different length legs. Don't worry, it's level. Enough.
I am happy with it. I painted the shelf an intense blue because it makes me think of those pretty doors and windows in old french homes that you see in photos—high contrast and very cheerful.
All it needs now is a coat of stain (since I didn't use cedar or PT or redwood for most of it).
Growing our own vegetables, a new potting bench, eating a plant-based diet, it's like paradise around here.
